DOUBLE-A — ARKANSAS TRAVELERS

RECAP: RF Zach DeLoach hit hit first AA home run and drove in 3 runs, but it wasn’t enough as Arkansas fell to Wichita 6–4 on Wednesday night. DeLoach (1x4, R, HR, 3 RBI) hit a 3-run home run with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th inning. 1B Jake Scheiner (2x3, BB) led the Travs with 2 hits, while LF Keegan McGovern (1x4) and CF Stephen Wrenn (1x3, 3B, RBI) each collected 1 of the team’s 5 hits. Starter Adam Hill (6.0,6,6,6,2,6,3HR) fell to 3–2 on the season with the loss, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits while walking 2 and striking out 6 over 6.0 innings. LH Steven Moyers (1.0,0,0,0,0,1), RH Collin Kober (1.0,0,0,0,0,2) and RH Nick Duron (1.0,0,0,0,1,0) combined to allow only 1 walk and strike out 3 over 3.0 hitless innings in relief.

JUNE PITCHER OF THE MONTH: Arkansas Travelers right-hander Penn Murfee was named Double-A Central June Pitcher of the Month by Minor League Baseball. He went 3–0 with a 1.38 ERA in 4 starts. He allowed 15 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 30 over 26.0 innings. Opponents batted just .167 against him. On June 18, he threw a 3-hit shutout against Tulsa with a career-high 11 strikeouts. Murfee, 27, was selected by Seattle in the 33rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Santa Clara University.

HIGH-A — EVERETT AQUASOX

RECAP: With the score tied 1–1 after 4 innings, the AquaSox added 2 runs in the 5th, 2 in the 7th and 1 in the top of the 8th inning to defeat Vancouver 6–2 on Wednesday night. CF Victor Labrada (2x3, 2 R, 3B, 2 BB), SS Patrick Frick (2x4, R, 3B, BB) and RF Cade Marlowe (2x4, 2 R, 3B, 2 RBI, BB), the AquaSox’s 1–3 batters in the lineup, combined to go 6-for-11 with 5 runs scored, 3 triples, 2 RBI and 4 walks. DH Dariel Gomez (1x5, 2B, 2 RBI) and C David Sheaffer (1x4, R) each collected 1 of the team’s 8 hits. Starter Stephen Kolek (5.0,4,1,1,1,7) improved to 3–0 on the season with the win, allowing only 1 run on 4 hits while walking 1 and striking out 7. RH Bernie Martinez (3.0,1,1,1,0,2,HR) allowed 1 run, a solo home run, over 3.0 innings in relief. RH David Ellingson (1.0,0,0,0,0,2) struck out 2 in a 1–2–3 9th inning.

JUNE PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Everett AquaSox outfielder Zach DeLoach was named High-A West June Player of the Month by Minor League Baseball. He led the league in batting average (.363), hits (33), runs (23) and doubles (12) and was third in total bases (50) and fourth in OPS (1.003). He hit safely in 19 of 21 June contests and recorded 10 multi-hit games and a 12-game hitting streak. DeLoach, 22, was selected by Seattle in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of Texas A&M University.

· WALK THIS WAY — RH George Kirby issued his first career walk in the 2nd inning on May 14 vs. Tri-City…dating back to 2019, he tossed 27.2 consecutive innings without allowing a walk to open his career (23.0 innings in 2019 and 4.2 innings in 2021)…overall this this season he is 4–2 with a 2.56 ERA (11 ER, 38.2 IP) in 8 starts…he has limited opponents to a .222 (32x144) average, while walking 8 and striking out 50.

LOW-A — MODESTO NUTS

RECAP: The Nuts scored 2 runs in the 6th and rallied for 1 run in the top of the 9th inning, but it wasn’t enough as Modesto fell to Fresno 6–3 on Wednesday night. The loss was the Nuts 8th straight loss. RF Alberto Rodriguez (2x4, 2B) and 1B Robert Perez (2x4, R) each led the team with 2 hits, while SS Noelvi Marte (1x4, R, RBI), 2B Cesar Izturis Jr. (1x3, 2B, BB) and CF Brett Rodriguez (1x2, R, 2B, RBI) each collected 1 of the Nuts 7 hits. Starter Adam Macko (2.2,2,1,1,1,4,HR) fell to 2–2 on the season with the loss, allowing 1 run on 2 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4 over 2.2 innings. RH Leon Hunter (2.1,4,3,3,0,1,HR), RH Elvis Alvarado (1.0,2,1,1,0,1), RH Robert Winslow (1.0,0,0,0,0,1) and RH Jose Curvelo (1.0,2,1,1,0,1) combined to allow 5 runs over 5.1 innings in relief.

ABOUT THE STREAK: The Nuts 10-game winning streak is their longest streak since winning 11 consecutive games, June 21-July 5, 2005. The longest winning streak in the history of the California League is 26 games done in 1947 from June 4th to July 1st by the Stockton Ports.

PLAYOFFS: It was announced last week that there will be playoffs in Low-A West this year. The two best overall records, regardless of division, will meet in a best-of-five series starting on Sept. 21st.
