Mariners Recall Erik Swanson from AAA Tacoma
Chasen Bradford has been placed on the 10-day Injured List
KANSAS CITY, MO— Mariners General Manager Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:
· Erik Swanson, RHP, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
· Chasen Bradford, RHP, placed on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
Swanson will be in uniform (#50) and available for tonight’s (5:15 pm PT) game at the Kansas City Royals.
Swanson, 25, tossed 5.0 shutout innings in his only appearance this season with Tacoma, starting and leaving with a 2–0 lead April 4 at Sacramento. He struck out 8, while allowing 6 hits, no runs and no walks. He’ll be making his Major League debut in his first appearance with Seattle.
Swanson was acquired by Seattle from New York-AL on Nov. 19, 2018 (with Justus Sheffield and Dom Thompson-Williams) in exchange for James Paxton. He split the 2018 season between AA Trenton and AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, going 8–2 with a 2.58 ERA (33 ER, 115.0 IP) with 133 strikeouts and just 29 walks in 22 games (20 starts), combined. He held opponents to a .204 (85x416) batting average against, and allowed 3 ER or fewer in 17 of 20 starts. Swanson was originally selected by Texas in the 8th round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
Bradford, 29, has appeared in 5 games this season, earning 1 save and 1 hold while posting a 4.26 ERA (3 ER, 6.1 IP). The 6-foot-1, 226-pound right-hander has struck out 5 and walked only 2. He worked 2.0 innings in last night’s 13–5 win at Kansas City, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1.
Bradford has appeared in parts of 3 Major League seasons, posting a career record of 7–0 with 1 save and a 3.75 ERA (39 ER, 93.2 IP) with 70 strikeouts and 29 walks in 79 relief appearances. He was orginally claimed off waivers by the Mariners from New York-NL on Jan. 19, 2018. Braford was selected by the Mets in the 35th round of the 2011 MLB Draft.
