Mariners Reinstate RHP Matt Festa from the 15-day Injured List

BOSTON, Mass. — Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

· Matt Festa, RHP, reinstated from 15-day Injured List.

· Wyatt Mills, RHP, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

Festa, 29, was placed on the 15-day Injured List on May 5 (retroactive to May 4). He has appeared in 11 games out of the Mariners bullpen this season, going 0–0 with a 5.25 ERA (7 ER, 12.0 IP) with 5 walks and 20 strikeouts. His 20 strikeouts ranks 2nd among Mariners relievers, trailing only Erik Swanson.

The right-hander has appeared in 3 Major League seasons (2018–19, ’22) with Seattle, going 0–2 with a 4.85 ERA (23 ER, 42.2 IP) with 19 walks and 45 strikeouts in 39 games (1 start). Festa underwent “Tommy John” surgery on March 5, 2020 and returned to action in August 2021 with Triple-A Tacoma. The Brooklyn native was selected by Seattle in the 7th round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Mills, 27, was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on April 28. He has appeared in 8 games for the Mariners with 4.15 ERA (4 ER, 8.2 IP). In 6 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season, he is 1–0 with a 1.93 ERA (2 ER, 9.1 IP). The 6-foot-4, 214-pound right-hander made his Major League debut with the Mariners on May 1, 2021 vs. Los Angeles-AL. Overall, he appeared in 11 games with the Mariners during the 2021 season, going 0–0 with a 9.95 ERA (14 ER, 12.2 IP) with 7 walks and 11 strikeouts.

Mills was originally selected by the Mariners in the 3rd round of the 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Gonzaga University. He has appeared in parts of 5 minor league seasons in the Mariners organization (2017–19, 2021–22), going 15–8 with a 3.40 ERA (62 ER, 164.0 IP) with 48 walks and 209 strikeouts in 132 minor league games (1 start).
