On this World Health Day, the Seattle Mariners are proud to support Boundless Washington, an outdoor leadership program for young people with disabilities.

The program, which is a partnership of the Washington State Leadership Board, Office of the Lt. Governor, the Outdoors for All Foundation and No Barriers, is supported in part by proceeds from the sales of Mariners specialty license plates.

Boundless Washington helps young people with physical and sensory disabilities get outdoors and experience what is best about the Northwest. Each excursion includes leadership development training.

“The commitments the Seattle Mariners have made to our community include increasing youth participation in physical activity, removing barriers and building a culture of inclusion, which is also the mission of Boundless Washington. We are proud to partner with this great organization to promote access for all youth and inspire youth of all abilities to become leaders in our community,” said Fred Rivera, Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President and General Counsel.

Today, the Washington state senate officially recognized the program with a resolution sponsored by Senator Claire Wilson (D-30), timed to coincide with World Health Day (April 7), in recognition of the importance of including people with disabilities in the state’s efforts to promote health.

Currently, Boundless Washington’s programs are virtual. But when in-person activities are permitted, the program will consist of a series of annual outdoor weekend excursions featuring activities such as skiing, hiking, camping and more. Boundless Washington fellows will not only gain practical outdoors experience; they will also challenge themselves personally and develop valuable leadership skills.

The Boundless Washington fellowship includes 10 student leaders per cohort selected from throughout the state who are interested in exploring the outdoors, challenging themselves, and are motivated to make their communities more inclusive. Beginning this year, the Boundless Washington program will have two simultaneous cohorts, who will interact as peer mentors as they work together to reach new heights.
